Podiums Irrigation

A landscape podium typically refers to an elevated platform or structure that is designed to incorporate green spaces, vegetation, and landscape elements within an urban environment.

Podium Landscape Irrigation

Watermatic have irrigated many podiums across the UK ranging from small planted podium terraces on different floor levels to large podiums over car parks including the Olympic Athletes Village.

Initially, we work closely with the architects early on the design stages. Then, with the building company during the construction and finally with the landscape contractors, installing plant rooms, working through slab penetration to the irrigation system.

One of the main purposes of a landscape podium is to introduce natural elements into densely populated urban areas where open green spaces may be limited. It provides a way to incorporate nature and greenery into the built environment, improving the overall quality of life for residents and visitors. Landscape podiums can also serve as recreational spaces, providing areas for walking, relaxation, and social interaction.

Overall, landscape podiums are innovative design solutions that blend urban development with natural elements, creating functional and visually appealing spaces within the built environment.

Benefits of Podium Landscapes

Increased Green Space

Podium landscapes provide additional green spaces within urban environments, helping to counterbalance the concrete and asphalt-dominated surroundings. They contribute to the overall aesthetic appeal and create a more pleasant living and working environment.

Urban Heat Island Mitigation

Podium landscapes can help combat the urban heat island effect by providing shade and reducing heat absorption from hard surfaces. The vegetation and greenery can cool the surrounding area, making it more comfortable for pedestrians and reducing the energy demands for cooling buildings.

Improved Air Quality

The vegetation on podium landscapes helps filter and purify the air by absorbing pollutants and releasing oxygen. This can contribute to better air quality, reducing the impact of urban pollution on human health.

Stormwater Management:

Podium landscapes can incorporate sustainable stormwater management practices, such as rain gardens or permeable surfaces. These features help capture and filter rainwater, reducing the strain on urban drainage systems and preventing water runoff and pollution.

Enhanced Biodiversity

By introducing plant life into urban areas, podium landscapes can create habitats for various species, including birds, insects, and small mammals. This promotes biodiversity and ecological balance in densely populated regions.

Recreational Opportunities

Podium landscapes offer recreational spaces for residents and visitors to enjoy. They can include amenities such as walking paths, seating areas, gardens, and water features, providing opportunities for relaxation, exercise, and social interaction.
