Sustainable Water Management

Sustainable Water Management

Sustainability really matters

Sustainable Water TankFresh treated mains water is becoming more precious, expensive and carries a large carbon footprint, we see recycling and reuse as the future. Watermatic faces up to and helps resolve the escalating environmental problems that affect all of us.

Hosepipe Ban?

Officially approved solution

Hosepipe Ban in United KingdomWater conservation is essential to help achieve a more sustainable society. With major concerns over UK water supply, enforced hosepipe bans, escalating water costs and severe weather, an increasing number of people are turning to sustainable irrigation solutions and using recycled grey water and rainwater harvesting systems to irrigate their gardens. This not only saves water and saves money; it clearly benefits the environment.

Drip Line Irrigation

Approved Irrigation throughout the year

Drip Line IrrigationDrip line irrigation has been officially approved for use since the hosepipe ban in 2012. Drip irrigation helps to optimise the use of water when irrigating vegetated areas (flower beds, hedges & trees) by allowing water to drip slowly to the roots of plants via a 16mm Drip line with drippers positioned every 30mm. Our special drip line has built in self cleaning mechanisms. It is a self regulating, anti siphon device providing even distribution throughout the line. This allows us to know exactly how much to irrigate the trees and hedges at different times of the year.

The drip line is installed on the surface and evenly spaced for optimised watering. In borders and beds, this pipe can be covered using bark or mulch for aesthetic proposes. This Drip line can be used also for irrigating Living Walls and Green roofs.

Modern drip irrigation has arguably become the world's most valued innovation in agriculture, parks, gardens & sub surface lawns irrigation. Subsurface drip irrigation (SDI) uses permanently or temporarily buried dripper line located at or below the plant roots. It is popular irrigation solution, and can also be used in water conservation areas where recycled water or rainwater is used for irrigation. Watermatic carefully study all the relevant factors like land topography, soil, water, plants and agro-climatic conditions are needed to determine the most suitable drip irrigation system and components to be used in a specific installation.

Our professional teams carefully plan, design, install and manage drip irrigation systems to help in achieving optimal plant growing conditions and water conservation where possible by reducing evaporation and deep drainage when compared to other types of irrigation such as flood or overhead sprinklers since water can be more precisely applied to the plant roots.

Rainwater Harvesting

Collection of free rain water

Rainwater HarvestingThese innovative harvesting systems will help conserve increasingly scarce water resources efficiently, responsibly and intelligently. Clearly the benefits can be realised for the environment and for us all. We use the very best of engineering principles together with professional, high quality tested products to ensure your investment in our system will give you a cost effective water efficiency system with reliability to last, and of course a beautifully sustained garden.

Our design team can individually design a simple and effective Rainwater Harvesting system to help irrigate your garden. We have a wide range of options from a small roof collection from your green house or shed to a 55,000 litre galvanised tank for larger needs. We can evaluate the average rain water in your area, work out the size of your roof area and recommend a tank and installation especially to suit you and your gardenís needs.

Grey Water Recycling

What is Grey Water?

Grey Water FilterGrey water is non-industrial wastewater generated from domestic processes such as showers and baths. We will be able to give you best advice to find out how you can utilise this water for garden irrigation by designing a system tailor made to suit your budget and your gardenís needs.

Can I use Grey water to irrigate the landscape areas?

You can utilise grey water from baths and showers to irrigate your thirsty trees, shrubs and plants, not vegetable gardens though. The most efficient method is via surface or sub surface drip irrigation directing the water to where your plants need itÖ which is at the root zone, and of course water is directed.

Is it safe?

If the grey water is used directly into the ground (sub surface drip) and within 24 hours, the water does not need special treatment other than minimal filtration to prevent blockages. It contains nitrogen, phosphorous and potassium which are beneficial to plants. It is better for you and the environment to use natural or organic body soaps and shampoos. Bleach or bleach based products should not be used. Instead, use environment friendly cleaning agents in bathrooms as these are biodegradable and have no damaging additives.
